The Future of Distribution: Streaming, Virtual Cinemas, and Beyond
During this very uncertain time filmmakers are facing the question of how they will get their work distributed to their ideal audience. The traditional ways in which films have been distributed seem to be a distant memory of the past as streaming sites are becoming the rule and not the exception. Join us for a conversation with content distributors at the forefront of this very conundrum who will provide insight on how they are selecting projects, the impact the recent pandemic has had on their strategy in acquiring new content, how they’ve had to pivot their strategy in the wake of recent events and more.

ABOUT THE MODERATOR & PANELISTS:
ALECE OXENDINE (moderator) has dedicated her 12+ year career to helping filmmakers achieve their goals, something she's actively pursued working at New York Film Festival, BAMcinématek, Rooftop Films, Fandor, GoDigital, Inc., and Good Deed Entertainment. Currently, she is the Director of Industry and Festival Outreach at Columbia University’s Film Program, where she is an esteemed alumna and is committed to giving back to the Columbia community. She is also a proud HBCU graduate of Winston-Salem State University where she received a magna cum laude distinction. Alece is originally from Durham, NC and has lived in Los Angeles, San Francisco, and is glad to call New York City home again.
LIVIA BLOOM INGRAM is a film curator and the Vice President of Icarus Films, a distribution firm representing artists including Chantal Akerman, Madeline Anderson, Mahamat-Saleh Haroun, Shôhei Imamura, Chris Marker, Rosine Mbakam, Jean Rouch, and Wang Bing, that The New York Times calls "a haven for nonfiction films that are at once socially conscious and supremely artful." Ingram has presented programs at institutions including the Cinémathèque française, Anthology Film Archives, Film at Lincoln Center, Film Forum, IFC Center, Museum of the Moving Image and The Museum of Modern Art. Her writing has appeared in the journals Cinema Scope, Cineaste, Filmmaker and Film Comment, and she is the editor of the book Errol Morris: Interviews. She is a graduate of Cornell and Columbia Universities, and lives in Brooklyn.
CARYN COLEMAN is the Director of Programming/Special Projects at Nitehawk Cinema and the founder of The Future of Film is Female. At Nitehawk, she manages the screening calendar for both locations and focuses her programming on the annual Nitehawk Shorts Festival, new releases of independent films (focusing on women filmmakers and new horror), and partnership screenings to bring substantive events into the cinema space. In 2018, she founded The Future of Film is Female, a funding initiative for short films directed by women, that is also an ongoing screening series at the Museum of Modern Art. Coleman received the 2012 Creative Capital/Warhol Foundation Art Writers Initiative grant and has organized panels for the Art House Convergence, Athena Film Festival, Connective Conversations for the Ford Foundation, and CAA.
MICHAEL ROSENBERG is President of Film Movement, the NYC-based independent film distributor which launched in 2002. Since acquiring the company in March 2014, Michael has overseen the creation of Film Movement Classics, which has reissued films by Marleen Gorris, Bille August, Eric Rohmer, Sergio Corbucci, Takeshi Kitano and others, and the launch in late 2018 of Film Movement Plus, the company’s online subscription streaming service. Film Movement has also dramatically increased its theatrical schedule as it released films by auteur directors such as Hirokazu Kore-eda, Bertrand Bonello, and Andrei Konchalovsky, and up-and-coming directors including Maysaloun Hamoud (In Between), Rungano Nyoni (I Am Not A Witch), Jayro Bustamante (Temblores), Atsuko Hirayanagi (Oh Lucy!), and Wanuri Kahiu (Rafiki). Michael was previously President of eOne Films USA, EVP at Koch Lorber Films, and President of Koch Entertainment Distribution and Koch Vision.
WENDY LIDELL is the Senior Vice President of Kino Lorber. Prior to joining Kino Lorber as SVP, Theatrical and Nontheatrical Distribution and Acquisition in 2016, Wendy Lidell was President ofInternational Film Circuit (InFC), which she founded in 1987. InFC earned a reputation for excellence, winning acclaim for its introduction into the US of filmmakers such as Raul Ruiz, Alexander Sokurov and Hou Hsiao-hsien. From 1999 to 2004, Lidell headed the theatrical division ofWellspring where she released, among others, Russian Ark, which grossed over $3 million. In 2004, she returned to InFC and released acclaimed films including Oscar-nominee Darwin’s Nightmare and She’s Beautiful When She’s Angry. Among her recent releases at Kino Lorber are Beanpole, Synonyms and Bacurau. Lidell has run academy campaigns for four documentaries nominated for Oscars.
