She'll discuss the wide span of female-driven projects she’s brought to life, projects that include Academy Award nominated Cutie and the Boxer and her directorial debuts Radium Girls (starring Joey King), followed by A Call to Spy (IFC Films). She'll also discuss how she advocates to tell female stories and gets buy in from investors and decision-makers to get those projects made. ABOUT LYDIA DEAN PILCHER:
Lydia Dean Pilcher is an American film and television director and producer, and founder of Cine Mosaic, a leading independent production company with extensive international experience.
Pilcher began her career directing documentaries and in 2018 she co-directed the upcoming feature, Radium Girls, starring Joey King and Abby Quinn and executive produced by Lily Tomlin & Jane Wagner. Radium Girls premiered at Tribeca Film Festival and is currently in a Theatrical & Virtual Cinema release, before it moves to Netflix. She also, recently directed the feature, A Call to Spy, a female-driven World War II spy thriller based on the true stories of Noor Inayat Khan, Vera Atkins, and Virgina Hall, currently in release with IFC Films.
As a two time Emmy Award winner and Oscar nominated producer of over forty feature films, she has worked with auteur directors including Gina Prince-Bythewood, Wes Anderson, Katja von Garnier, Barry Levinson, Ritesh Batra, Kathryn Bigelow, George Wolfe, and twelve films in a longstanding collaboration with internationally acclaimed director Mira Nair. Their most recent work includes the feature, “Queen of Katwe” for Disney and the six hour mini-series for BBC/Netflix, “A Suitable Boy” set in India, based on the novel by Vikram Seth.
Pilcher is a longtime environmental activist, and has taught a class she designed on Audience and Cultural Strategy, at NYU Graduate Film & Television. She co-authored, “The Ms. Factor: The Power of Female Driven Content.”
